Abstract

The study aimed to examine the effect of cashless policy on insecurity in Katsina State. Using mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative and qualitative which was collected through surveys, interviews, and focus groups discussion with residents of Katsina, security officials, and financial experts. Cashless policy plays a vital role in cubing insecurity in Katsina state; as such the study revealed the real prospects and benefits derived from adopting the policy in the country as well as the level of acceptance by Katsina state dwellers. The policy has had a positive impact on reducing cash-related crimes, but also highlighted some challenges and limitations (shortage of cash in rural areas and increase in cybercrime.). The study recommends that Government should monitor and evaluate the impact of the cashless policy on crime reduction and make adjustments as necessary. Implement measures to address the increase in cybercrime resulting from the policy. Engage with local communities to address concerns and encourage participation in the cashless policy. Foster collaboration between financial institutions, security agencies, and government departments to ensure effective implementation.
